Ohio Minutemen Militia

HISTORY OF THE MINUTEMEN

Although the terms militia and minutemen are sometimes used interchangeably today, in the 18th century there was a decided difference between the two. Militia were men in arms formed to protect their towns from foreign invasion and ravages of war. Minutemen were a small hand-picked elite force which were required to be highly mobile and able to assemble quickly. Minutemen were selected from militia muster rolls by their commanding officers. Typically 25 years of age or younger, they were chosen for their enthusiasm, reliability, and physical strength. Usually about one quarter of the militia served as Minutemen, performing additional duties as such. The Minutemen were the first armed militia to arrive or await a battle.

What is the Militia?

As defined by our founding fathers, the militia is defined as “the whole people”. It is every able-bodied Citizen who is not disqualified by criminal conviction or mental defect, except those few persons who hold public office, such as judges, legislators, etc. The Volunteer Militia exists by law under

Amendment II of the United States Constitution, U.S.C. Title 10 Subtitle A.

Part I, Chapter 13, Section 311 and under all State Constitutions. Concept of Militia

The Militia IS:

1. A deterrent, defensive force.

2. A first response mechanism.

3. A chain of command that we can use to offer leadership and assistance to our fellow citizens.

4. A Responsibility passed from our forefathers to us; and from us to our posterity.

5. A realization and practice of our God - given Rights, Liberties, Duties and Responsibilities.

6. An organization of, by and for the Constitutions of Ohio and the United States, and the people whom they serve.

The Militia is NOT:

1. An offensive force.

2. A private army subject to the dictates of any individual, corporation, or other private group.

3. An organization formed for sustained combat operations (a “standing army”).

4. To be used as a forum or launching point for any particular political or religious agenda.

Who Can Join The Militia?

Any citizen of Ohio who maintains legal residence in the state of Ohio and has resided in the state for at least the past six months, and is not otherwise disqualified from being a member of the Ohio Minutemen Militia.

Who Belongs to the Militia?

As Ohio Constitution-17 to 47yrs of age and The U.S. Constitution-17 to 67 yrs of age: We the People: Doctors, Policemen, Firemen, Lawyers, Sheriffs & Deputies, Pastors, Teachers, EMT’s, Plumbers, Salesmen, Nurses, Electricians, Truckers, Students, Housewives, Construction workers, Mill workers, Carpenters, Mechanics, etc, etc.

Membership in the Ohio Minutemen Militia is open to all American citizens and legal residents over the age of seventeen. The militia adheres to Christian principles, but is strictly a military, not a religious organization.

The militia is open to Americans of any religion or no religion; both sexes and all citizens regardless of race or national origin are welcome. Discrimination based on sex, race, religion or political affiliation must not be tolerated. All memberships and participation will remain confidential unless voluntarily relinquished by personal choice to further militia functions.

Ohio militia:

Our purpose for forming this well-regulated Militia is to insure preparedness should we be forced to take up arms in the defense of our GOD – given Rights and Liberties, our Republic, our State, and our Constitutions; or to deter those enemies, both foreign and domestic, who would abrogate them.

Ohio Minutemen Militia Responsibilities

To secure and practice all of our Rights and Liberties;

To open our ranks to all citizens who love Liberty – without regard to one’s race, creed, or gender; and to deny participation to those who seek to harm the Republic, discredit us or our goals;

To be an effective deterrent to tyranny;

To clearly state that we are committed to a posture of defense, and do not advocate the unlawful overthrow, targeting of or overthrow of our form of government by any person(s);

To uphold the just and lawful statutes of the nation as stated in the US Constitution;

To declare no enemies, yet be mindful of those who declare us to be enemies;

To teach the correct and unvarnished history of our Republic, both national and State, the formation of

our Constitutions and Bill of Rights;

To teach & promote participatory citizenship;

To promote the safe and responsible use of Arms for the protection of our families, our property, our American way of life and our republican form of government; To teach that our Liberties and Rights are not limited to those Rights which are enumerated in the Bill of Rights, and that those Rights are granted by our Creator; To assist duly elected, sworn and bonded public officials in time of emergency or in the defense of our God – given Rights, Liberties, and the Constitution(s).

Each Militia member must be prepared to

“Stand Fast”, not letting Fear and Doubt overpower their

FAITH in GOD, our Constitutions, their trust in their leaders and their fellow Militia members.

It is the goal of all Militia members to be prepared and never needed, as opposed to being needed and not prepared.

Ohio Minutemen Militia

Members understand that our Bill of Rights guarantees (not

creates) those Rights which are given to us by GOD, and CANNOT BE TAKEN AWAY, given away, ignored, or legislated out of existence. WE are dedicated to the principle that when good men do nothing, evil flourishes; that the price of Liberty is eternal vigilance; and that all power is inherent in

“WE THE PEOPLE...”
