Former Texas Police Officer Faces To Trials For Shooting Teen Burglars After Chase

Recommended Posts

An off-duty police officer who killed one teen-aged burglary suspect and shot at another will face charges in separate cases, one for each on the teens involved.

The criminal case against a former Farmers Branch police officer who fatally shot a teenage robbery suspect will move forward.

A Dallas County grand jury determined there is probable cause that Ken Johnson knowingly caused the death of 16-year-old Jose Cruz and attempted to cause the death of his friend, Edgar Rodriguez.

The shooting happened in March. Police said Johnson was off duty when he saw two people burglarizing his personal vehicle at his apartment complex in Addison.

He allegedly got into his SUV and chased the teenagers. One witness told FOX 4 the SUV hit the car and then Johnson got out and started shooting.

Former officer Johnson faced the same degree of scrutiny as any American might, and perhaps more, because he was a police officer and should have known quite well when the use of lethal force was justified.

It appears that Johnson let his temper get the better of him, and it is likely to cost him his freedom in addition to ending Edgar Rodriguez’s life.
