Matthew Apperson, the man who had stalked and apparently tried to murder George Zimmerman in a car-to-car shooting, was convicted on three charges last month. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison today.

The
man convicted of shooting at George Zimmerman as the two drove down Lake Mary Boulevard in separate vehicles was sentenced today to 20 years in prison.

A Seminole County jury found 38-year-old Matthew Apperson guilty last month of attempted second-degree murder, armed aggravated assault and shooting into a vehicle.

This morning Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson handed down the state-mandated minimum: 20 years for shooting at another person with a gun.

Zimmerman has had a checkered past with law enforcement, but appears to have clearly been the victim of Apperson in this incident. Apperson had an alleged “fixation” on Zimmerman since Zimmerman was found not guilty of any crime after Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin in self-defense as Martin committed felony criminal assault against him.

Apperson apparently stalked Zimmerman and then tried to murder him in a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting. Deeply in denial, Apperson’s wife and mother are attempting to hold Zimmerman at fault for Matthew Apperson’s actions.

Moments earlier Apperson’s wife, Lisa, stood in front of the judge, accused her of making unfair rulings and allowing an innocent man – her husband – to go to jail.

Seminole County authorities, Lisa Apperson said, have “given George Zimmerman a golden ticket to go out and do whatever he wants to do.”

Apperson’s mother, Janet White, asked the judge to throw out the verdict and allow her son to go free.

Her son acted in self-defense, she said, and the real bad man here is Zimmerman.

“We will hold our collective breaths to see what outrageous acts he (Zimmerman) performs next,” White said.

If you listen to Lisa Apperson or Janet White, you’d get the impression that George Zimmerman made Matthew Apperson stalk him and then attempt to murder him.

That’s nuts.

The last I checked, a “golden ticket” shouldn’t be required for a person to expect to be able to drive down the road without a person attempting to stalk and murder you.

Zimmerman has remained a polarizing figure since Martin’s death, and has remained in the news with allegations of assault by him (charges were dropped) allegations of assault against him (still under investigation), tasteless public appearances, and his decision to auction off the gun he used to shoot Martin.

While I’d like to think that Apperson’s sentencing would be the last we’ll hear of George Zimmerman for a while, I’m not willing to place bets on him being out of the news for long.
