Wow! So... I believe in giving (sincere) compliments knowing it makes others feel better about themselves. It brightens their day.
When someone is giving me a compliment, I judge what they are saying with the item (clothing, hair etc) or the action (thanks for giving me a ride, you saved my life) and if I deem it insincere (because I don't like smoke being blown up my ass) ... it just pisses me off.
This is similar to Maslow's Pyramid of Needs.

Its interesting, how it can apply to the large concepts of long-term preparedness and post disaster recovery.
Yes... group psychology and threat assessment. Identify which personality will mesh, which will be trouble... which will be worker bees, which will be leaders, which will turn on a dime.
