Binoculars and/or monoculars

Recommended Posts

Just curious what kind of gear folks are using and looking for some pros and cons that others have found. I'm primarily interested in something under a hundred dollars as like everyone else, there's a lot to buy and maintain.

I think it's easier to pick out detail seeing in stereo so I like to keep a small pair of field binoculars handy for practical and tactical situations.  Hard to beat a good monocular spotting scope on a tripod at the range though so I have both.  ?

Thanks LFR. I have my dad's old spotting scope and it definitely has it's uses. Really thinking portability, mobility, and quick use out in the woods or in situations. Unfortunately so much comes from China. I'd love to find an old set at a yard sale or something instead of supporting our enemies.

Unfortunately you aren't going to find any binoculars made in the USA, there may be some assembled in the US but with parts from Japan, Hong Kong, Germany., Philippines.  Just need something that works decent and lasts and portable so you can have it on you when you need them.  I got a pair of these and they do just fine.

$174.00 is a lot of money for a monocular.

A lot of it is personal choice.  What works for you.  I don't mind either.  It also comes down to your job/position.  If your scouting you may want a spotting scope in addition to something smaller.  Stay away from the direct from China stuff on eBay.  I ordered a monocular and it was weaker than a lower power Tasco bino and it then broke=Refund.
