What are some methods that you use for recruitment?

What has been successful and what has not?

Here are some of the methods that I have applied to recruiting.

I created an open Facebook page for recruiting purposes. To get new people involved and a place to ask questions and have conversations.

I have a closed Facebook page for members only with a social chat and a business only chat.

I created a simple ad with a picture of the unit patch and posted it to all of the local for sale group pages and surprisingly they were not removed. I gained two prospects out of those ads.

A Craigslist ad was also created.

I made two different fliers. One that is has 4 portions that you cut out. They are simple so it saves ink and paper. The other is a trifold flier that is more in depth with information. The only contact information is an email address and a Facebook link. Phone numbers are reserved for in person contacts or friends of friends. I will post examples.

Some of the places that I have placed fliers at are grocery stores, laundromats, convenience stores, gas stations. The bulletin boards near the employees I place a few small fliers and the ones near the entrance areas or outside I place a couple big fliers and a few small fliers on a different side of the 1st flier. The reason why I separate them is because if you get a dick that pulls them and throws them away they may overlook the other flier.

If you have the money and if they will except the ad then you could try your local paper and weekly buyers guide. Papers still have a large circulation so it may pay off. Pass a hat and find out.

Probably one of the most effective recruiting methods is word of mouth. You have to instill in unit members early a sense of ownership. It is as much their unit as it is the leaderships. Every member is a recruiter. If they have the opportunity to share basic information about the unit they should. They should try and encourage excitement and an urge to want to be in it. Just a note yes you should have an official recruiter but every member is a recruiter. If they get a prospect then the information is forwarded to the recruiter. The unit recruiter should be clean cut and a general clean appearance. We have a polo shirt with a colored unit patch on the left chest area(heart) for the unit recruiter to wear during meetings. The recruiter should be a people person and have a friendly demeanor about themselves but professional at all times.

Another posts talk about DD-214. Depending if you have the prospect black out sensitive information or just hands it over you should keep the information confidential and not discuss with other members besides the commander. It is private information and its nobodies business.

All information of the prospect, recruit and unit member is private. Leadership should not be talking about it. Now if the individual wants to share whatever information then that's another matter.

As far as unsuccessful? Its all a game of chance. Usually the methods work but some faster than others depending on the week. Like I mentioned, word of mouth is the best method.

Hope this helps someone.

I would be wary of OPSEC on Facebook as it is used as a tool by the Deep State in cahoots with Zuckerberg.

Use an alias, use a library computer if you're really worried.  Doesn't matter any, the gov knows everything.  Hell you probably have an agent or an informant on your membership roles.

True but many people think they are secure on a private facebook account so that was for them.  I also agree an alias is a good idea.  No sense making it easier for them.   ?  The group I am in only uses aliases online and nothing of OPSEC (Operations Security for non-military) is ever discussed on our site..

True, people are not the brightest.  Nothing electronic is safe.  Best to use hard copy, courier and person to person for anything sensitive.  Basically facebook conversations should be nothing more than general chatter.  If something real world happens, meetings had better be in person.  And NO lets go to Bob's place to meet about the UN invasion, LOL.  SOP should have something plain like leaders meeting at rally point alpha at 1900 hrs.  Or something like that without giving a location.

I am not a member of a militia currently (just turned 18, i need to get settled first) but i have always thought that a good way to recruit is simply to put yourselves out there. I have recommended an idea i had on the topic (never tried personally). I suggest that you send representatives from your unit to gun stores and other militia friendly places. Set up a booth outside or inside, and have one of your 3 man teams on a circle roster do it every weekend. Go to a few different stores, stay for an hour a piece. Something like that. I have also thought that militias teaching firearm safety courses should more prolific, as it might increase proliferation of gun owners, which is a priority of the militia movement.

You'd be surprised at how many gun stores, ranges etc. aren't Militia friendly.  They are happy to take your money but not to stick their neck out promoting you.

wow... that is extremely disappointing... oh well, it is to be expected. I always try to talk about the militia when at pro-gun places so i guess we will just have to hope we get more support in the long run.

One thing you could do is when you or other members go to these places go in uniform or partial uniform and if people ask about patches or similar then give them the join the militia talk.  If the owner tells you to stop then tell them you will stop giving them business and then you will tell members to stop and they will tell their friends and family.  Soon enough word will be around they are anti 2nd Amendment.

I've thought about putting on "civics" lectures, free to the public; wherein the main topic would be the Constitution "what is the United States exactly".  Run through the structure of government, the "levels" of government (federal, state, county, municipal) and their relationships to each other.  Emphasize the Bill of Rights that guarantee our right to privacy, due process of law, and the right to bear arms in defense of ourselves and our country.  Stress the importance of the responsibilities of citizenship: voting, serving on a jury, serving in the military and membership in a Militia.  Also, that our form of government requires participation: the more there is, the better it works.  That's where the Militia really shines.  Then get into the mission of your militia unit and it's (hopefully) relationship with local/county government.  Stress that we serve the people, and our communities while safeguarding our rights contained in the Constitution.  I haven't gotten that far into it, but  roughly 30 minutes would seem about right, with question/answer period to follow.  Just my thoughts.

This is a really good idea.  If finances allowed you could give away those 1.50 pocket Constitutions along with the lecture.  I may just borrow this idea.
