You can only pick one item to take on a deserted island, what do you pick?  Tell us why.....

Satellite phone is the smart pick for quick contact and rescue. 

 

If that isn't an option and I'm in an actual survival situation... I pick the knife every day of the week. 

 

You can make a spear with a knife and a sturdy tree limb.  You can start a fire without matches.  Mud makes a great sunblock and insect bite barrier.  Torch can be used as a light source once you get a fire going.  

 

Fishing net would be nice and so would a hammock... these can be built from natural resources using a sturdy knife. 

 

The knife can do it all.

Everything Survival based can be made using the knife. I can make spears, a raft, a spear...

definitely the knife. It's more utilitarian. Chances are the satellite phone won't even work. (at least that seems to be my experience with technology).

Satellite phone so I can call and get rescued.  They can also use the signal to pin point my location.

There's  an old WWII movie, these two Marines, everytime the ship passed by a certain island, would jump off and swim to shore, then live with the natives until the ship sent m.p.'s to fetch them back.

     I like the reasons Revrifleman gave. He had some I hadn't  thought of, for the knife.

i chose the administrator. He probably knows alot more than me, and you always need a battle buddy. 2 have a much greater survival chance and can get alot more done that just one.

Guess you can make a knife by rubbing it on a rock, maybe luck out and find a spear head or some flint. Good choice as well.
