What does MyMilitia do?

Recommended Posts

I am new to this group.  Can you please explain what MyMilitia does?  I am trying to determine if I want to be part of this group.  What do you do?  Do you have meetings?  What is your goals?  Who runs this organization?  Does it have a board?  Do you have any officers?  Have you ever held a meeting?  If so, when and where?  Please advise. Thank you, Lynne Torgerson

The main purpose of MyMilitia is to help people come together locally and nationally to form and participate in their civic duties in the militia.  The secondary purpose is to inform, educate and foster civil discussions.

MISSION STATEMENT

As the de facto authority in american patriot militias we understand that we oversee a significant share of the publics perception of the militia, and with this many individuals and militias entrust their ideas, work, and data to our platform. We do not take this lightly as we mandate an extreme amount of responsibility and assurance of good faith, transparency, and due process. We will remain vigilant as a trusted force among our people. So help us God.

in lamens terms, we are where militiamen and militia supporters come to share idea and opinions and help people find or form units in their area. We have all sorts of cool stuff, there are alot of PDF field manuals on here too that you can read. If it relates to the militia, prepping, survivalism, or guerrilla warfare, its here. On top of that, the people are all very friendly and the moderators are awesome dudes, honestly the best mods ive ever seen on a social media site. You'll like it here. We are just like one big happy dysfunctional family! XD

Mr Torgerson's question was essentially about democratic accountability.

In an ideal world, we would all be living in one city, and could meet physically from time to time to hammer out our policies -- or when a critical decision had to be made.  Then we couild have an elected board. Everyione on it would be expected to roughly the same amount of work and make roughly the same sacrifice of money and time that could be spent with their family.

But, this is not the case. We're scattered all over everywhere, thousands of miles apart. In theory, we could meet 'online', but  in reality these things don't work out.   (Although real-time online meetups, via Skype or similar, might be worth considering. But not to make decisions.)

And ... this board is NOT a collective effort, not in the sense that each of us contributes the same amount of work, energy, time and worry.. It was started by FIxer, who has evidently put an enormous amount of time and energy into it. So he's the boss.  If he's a good boss, he will consult the active members before making big decisions, but we cannot expect him to be overruled by a vote on something.  (And there is a danger to organizations where anyone can join and we have no effective way of checking on their legitimacy: you can be subject to a hostile takeover by a group of people pretendng to be pro-militia but who actually want to shut the board down. There are at least five hardline communist organizations in the US  (Revolutionary Communist Party, Workers World Party,  the Party of Liberation and Socialism, the Progressive Labor Party, the Socialist Workers Party) which are disciplined parties  -- their members follow orders  [ask me how I know] , each with several hundred to several thousand members. It would be the easiest thing in the world for any one of these groups to order its cadres to assume false identities and email addresses -- they wouldn't even have to be false -- and sign up to this board over a period of a few weeks. Then at the next online 'election' they could take over. (This actually happened to a group in Israel a few years ago.)

Even without hostile action, if you study the history of small groups -- including the militia but not limited to it -- you will see that they often break up in nasty splits, either because of personal differences, or ideological disputes, or both. That can't happen to MyMilitia.

A local militia is, or should be, different. There, democratic elections can work. (Or local militias may be led in other ways. This board does not have to have an opinion on it.)  (In fact the original militias elected their own officers: everyone knew each other and their qualities. But that's not relevant to this site.)

For this board, the buck stops with Fixer and with him alone. If he's a good leader he will make sure he gets the opinions of the people also doing work here, and/or who have some expertise in specialized areas. That's ABC. Seems to have worked so far.

If this site took political positions, if there were controversial decisions to make, that might make it problematic. But the beauty of this enterprise is, it's a technical support unit: it exists to allow people to learn about the militia movement, to find their local militia, and to bring information to local militias.

In essence, this site sends members, and information, to local militias. There aren't any controversial issues to quarrel about. We don't have to decide for whom to vote, or whether or not we should be in Afghanistan. We don't even have to decide whether a local militia should standardize on the AR15, or have a BYOB policy. We can just present both sides of  such arguments.

So it's not 'democratic' but neither is a rifle company.

You can get a lot further in life with a kind word and a gun, than with a kind word alone.
