Are guard dogs part of your team logistics?

Recommended Posts

Many military units now utilize highly trained dogs as a part of their force multiplier. Recent events overseas demonstrate their practical use by the deployment of 'K9 Conan' to assist in anti-terrorist missions.

Having these animals as part of your logistical strategy is something every Militia group should consider. Depending on your needs, dogs can be a simple 'early warning' system, guard and patrol duties or full-on combatants. However, deciding to incorporate K-9's to your team should not be taken lightly.

Although invaluable in tactical maneuvers, these dogs are not pets, but are highly trained warriors. You do well to respect that. I’ve been around these security dogs and their trainers, and you treat them with respect. That means you DO NOT come into their space unless given permission. Not saying some dogs don’t respond, it’s just you don’t approach them without that permission. They don’t allow the dogs to seek attention either without permission. At least when on duty.

I have been training GSD's (German Shepherd Dog) as an integral part of my deployment. Sachi, the mom of the pups, is trained for Search and Rescue. Blu and Duke, now 10 months old, are being trained for security. Feel free to contact me for more information.

BEST DOG BREEDS FOR HOME PROTECTION: NO TRAINING NECESSARY

While I appreciate the great video highlighting the German Shepherd, saying 'No Training Necessary' is a misnomer. At the very least for *home protection*, these dogs must be trained in the basics. Having an aggressive breed like this, that won't come to you when called, is a recipe for liability lawsuits. Or worse. Imagine a city worker or paperboy arriving at your home to be met with an untrained GSD. The results would be disastrous, to the person and ultimately the animal. So lets not even go there.

Even more importantly, these are working dogs. They have an insatiable drive in having a job to do, and that's where training comes in to fill that desire. If the dogs picks up the basics quickly and obeys commands every time, that animal could be a candidate for advanced training. Personal protection and defense would be level II training. Level III would consist of job specific training, like detection and recovery. And level IV (and above) are for offensive pursuit and take-down maneuvers and military squad tactics.

Militia units would need at least level III training, for both the dog and the handler.

I totally agree all dogs should have training and you are right to point that out.  What I believe the video is really about from actually having watched it despite it's title, is the breed of dogs that have the best instincts to naturally be great guard dogs, more easily trained to do so and still be good family friendly pets with more of a basic training only.  The poster of the video actually discusses this in his video.  Titles are designed to draw viewers in and not always 100 percent accurately descriptive, it's a good video for this purpose.  Family prepping is also a part of the mission of this site and these dogs are good breeds for those families as well.  A militia person needs to know their home and family is well protected as well while they are away from it and evil walks nearby.  Thanks!

I have a gsd rescue named jager. Being a rescue I had to rebuild his confidence, he was abused and abandoned as a puppy.  He’s very trainable and I’ve used German commands to train him. He listens to commands well and I have trained him to sit before he goes in or out. I can command him to sitz and bleib as I open the door and he will not go out until I give him the “geh” command. He can do more but that’s the basics of what I’ve taught him.

He loves his people, if you’re not his people then he will let you know that you are not.
