What happens to them if society falls apart?

 

Unlike most of mans inventions, which stop working when neglected, nuclear power plants are essentially designed to melt down or detonate, and it requires humans to prevent them from doing so (by redirecting the fission into power generation).

 

Have you checked to see where the fallout of your nearest nuclear energy plant will end up if people stop maintaining it? Left to their own, they become dirty bombs or nuclear bombs as the natural progression of their reactions.
