New Unit Startup Procedure: (Update 09-02-2020)

Recommended Posts

The following will be my very best attempt at giving any new founder/leader the required knowledge to start your own unit specific to your personal locality. I will post this incrementally as I have the time so if you are new to this check back often for added information and idea.

Thank each and every one of you for your time and sacrifice in these endeavors of like-mind.

UPDATE 09-02-2020

Due to changes in FB protocols, Facebook is no longer a viable option for groups such as ours, nor is it an environment for free speech in ANY shape or form. I am afraid the instructions that were here to help make your community aware of your unit are now outdated because of ineffectiveness on social media.

I have left the posts I made just for thought's sake. But they are no longer valid. I will be locking this thread.

Thank you, Matt

Step #1: Vision

The very first thing any founder of a new unit needs to do is put in some "thought time" to determine your future course of action. When I began this for my unit, it quickly turned into much more than I had first anticipated. You have to determine what kind of unit you want to form, what your goals will be, whether they be specific to the unit, or your community, or whatever else your considerations may be.

Some of you will only be interested in forming a militia to train in all aspects of defensive posture for whatever SHTF scenario that may come down the pike. That's great. Nothing wrong with that what-so-ever. Our 2nd Amendment was recognized by our Founders to be a right given by God, not government, and our 2nd Amendment rights enable us to do just as I've described above.

But there are other things to consider for some people. Are you going to focus on your whole county when recruiting? Or maybe just focus on your specific township (depending on it's size)? Are you interested in firearm and tactical training only? Or would you want to maybe promote self-sufficiency by EVERYONE in the county, going town by town until every town in the county participates in efforts to become self-sufficient during a long term SHTF scenario? That's a much greater an undertaking... But it is doable. It used to be the way of life for everyone a few decades ago. But complacent and dependency on government has changed much of that, having us all dependent on the norms provided for us every day.

Personally, I would have been happy with just assembling those of like-mind to train in defensive/tactical posturing and strategies should shit go sideways... but I felt that in a SHTF scenario, it would fall very short of the need that would almost immediately arise among ALL the people in our communities within my county. Getting people to participate in preparing and training to become self-sufficient may well be like trying to pull hen's teeth. But one thing will change all of that IMMEDIATELY: Need. When the shit finally does hit the fan, there will be hordes of people in great need if they do not properly prepare... and we MIGHT be overwhelmed by the people willing to do anything to survive, or see that their family survives.

Therefore for me personally, I have TRIED to think through and envision how ALL of our needs can be met... and in so doing, as we all work together for common goals, develop a comradery that only exists between people that have shared a burden together, whether it be in the garden as we raise crops to can and store, or whether it be in the foxhole fighting against looters, anarchy of various kinds due to a wide variety of failures, or maybe even against tyranny itself.

I am proceeding in the beginning with a COUNTY-WIDE focus. This is already bearing fruit as like-minded individuals are joining our efforts daily. But eventually the attentions with shit from one township, to another, until every township in our county is operational in all the various aspects required.

What these things required? Virtually any and everything you can think of.

  • We need a local food supply that cannot be interrupted.
  • We'll need training with firearms, munitions and firearm design, tactical defense of self, township and county. We need to be ready to stand with Constitutional LEO's.
  • We'll need medical personnel of any and every kind, with Medics being of high demand.
  • I'd like to see a MC1st "Patrol & Assist" available to local townships when the lights go out, whether it be a man-made condition or whether simple severe weather takes out the power for weeks (which isn't uncommon in my area at all). The community "Patrol & Assist" would be available to answer emergencies as they arise should people need assistance meeting an ambulance or whether thieves are looting their personal property, a patrol can show up on the property and assist until law enforcement arrives to remedy the situation.
  • We'll need stable communications that can reach out to the county, township by township even when the lights go out and the phone lines are down. Communication is VITAL and very achievable, but again, WITH the PARTICIPATION of the people.
  • We'll need people of every skill and trade you can think of for one task or another. There is not one skill-set that won't be needed, should they have the passion to give.

Being self sufficient seems like a daunting task now-days because we have become so spoiled in convenience. But self-sufficiency isn't as hard to achieve as one might think with one specific element on hand: participation of the people.

So there you have a basic idea of step one: Thinking through what kind of unit you want to create within your locale. Being called to the task of training up the militia is a great and meaningful effort. Or, taking on a more encompassing job... or anything in between. The choice is YOURS my friend... and may God lead your every thought and direction.

Step #2: Recruitment

First you must settle on the name you will give your militia, community service or whatever type of partnership you seek. The name should match your vision as closely as possible. The following are decisions only you can make, but put some thought time into it before you settle. It will keep you from having to make alot of changes in the future should you decide to change the name, etc..

After you come up with the name of your unit, then it'll be time to start developing your Facebook page. But be warned. Facebook has been known to get sensitive if you are openly and heavily militia-minded, especially if your content is reported by anonymous liberals out there that just oppose our perspectives. Also, there is the public opinion. Between people of like-mind (such as we have here), we need not explain from the roots up of what we want, desire and wish to build upon. But the public in general has been propagandized by liberal media for decades against any group like ourselves who simply believe that exercising our Constitutional rights is the best way to keep them.

There will be a few things you'll need to put into words when you begin development of your FB page. Don't worry. You don't actually "publish" the page (that's when everyone can see it) until you are done and satisfied with the content. You can take days to make it what you want. You can take as long as you wish. Then when you're satisfied, you can then simply click the "publish now" and wa-la. It will be public.

To give you an example, here is the page I developed for my unit here in Mercer County, West Virginia. If you'll look at it you can get an idea of what you'll need to do.

When you first begin your page you will be asked to choose a "template" and a "category" with which your page will be identified. For my unit I chose the "standard" template because I was already familiar with its functions. It has a "Notes" section handy to post relevant information, a "Video" archive where you can post your videos, a picture album that you can categorize, and other features that are handy to what I'll be doing. Experiment with the different templates. Enable each one of them one at a time and examine all the available features unique to each one of them and then choose the best one for you. Examine and choose from the templates before you enter any data because everytime you change the template, it changes the entire layout of you page. If you enter data and then change the template, you may have to move your data from where it is to another more appropriate place. Do it if you have to. But try to avoid it by choosing the correct template for you first.

In the right hand column of my FB page I have a post containing the by-laws of the MC1st. You can, however, post anything there you wish. That is determined by whatever data you enter while developing the "About" section of your page.

Click on the "About" section and you'll be taken to the data sheet describing your page. There, you basically just fill in the blanks. In the "Story" section, that's where I currently have the by-laws, but I'll probably change that to the vision of the unit in the near future. You can put anything you wish there, but just remember, you're trying to communicate the idea of what you are looking for, what you want to achieve, and why. The deeper you can dig within yourself to explain that, the better people are going to understand you. If you're wanting to assemble a county militia to train, prepare and exercise your 2nd Amendment rights? Then say that so the "people of like mind" will know what they may or may not be interested in.

I'm not sure I have anything in my video archive there as of yet, but I do have a few things posted under "Notes". Give that a look just to get an idea of what you can do with that also.

On your main page, depending on the template you choose, there may be a display of "events". You will have to populate that yourself. In the beginning try to find events local to your area being sponsored by someone else that the people you are trying to attract may be interested in (gun shows, etc.). In the future, when you muster or hold a specific training event or any kind of event for your unit, you can list it there also. It enables everyone to keep up with what's going on with your unit.

Once you have all that set, it will be time to "promote" your page. I'll get into that in my next post. Until then, I hope your development of your Facebook page goes well. I will add the next writ asap.
