Full Activity, Less Infections

Recommended Posts

South Korea and one other nation have resumed normal activity, and while implementing health measures, the rate of infection has drastically dropped. I read that in the New York Times online, but was unable to read the full article due to not having a subscription.

Here is another article, the strategy being listed as not necessarily a permanent fix: https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/coronavirus-cases-have-dropped-sharply-south-korea-whats-secret-its-success.

The South Koreans are on top of this thing for one main reason -- and we can learn a lot from them -- they were prepared. They have been expecting something like this, and had worked out in advance how to respond to various scenarios.

Seventy years ago, they, we, got caught by surprise by the North Koreans.  No one expected such a move, although when Dean Acheson (our Sec of State at the time) made a speech which implied that Korea was not inside our defense perimeter, this didn't help.

They invaded without warning. We almost got pushed into the sea.  Unprepared garrison troops in Japan, out of shape and unprepared, were thrown into the path of the advancing North Korean army.  [ If you want to read what happens when you're not prepared but have to fight anyway, read this:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Osan   ]  The men who fought in Korea don't get nearly enough credit and recognition now.

Anyway, the South Koreans know that life can go from routine, boring 'normalcy' one day, to total chaos and intense fear the next.  And they're going to be prepared for that.

In light of the Chinese Communist Virus, this is the main lesson the militia movement should be driving home day after day to the rest of the conservative movement (we can forget about the liberals).  They think it's enough to vote every two years for whoever is the Republican nominee, and that life will go on.  After all, we survived eight years of Bill Clinton and eight years of Mr Obama. How bad can it be?

Very bad.  Things have changed. And they can change overnight: whether or not you can walk down the street can be decided by men with guns.  Welcome to the real world.

We've got to get ready.

Yeah, Americans have been lulled into believing that nothing can befall this nation. Same erronrous reasoning which caused me and others to not pay attention in Government class in high school. Who needs to know how the government works? Well, some of us finally figured out that it's one of the most important subjects to become well acquainted with. Anyone who never learns that is a fool.
