My username Sparks was chosen because I hold an Extra class FCC amateur radio license.  Because it will be pertinent to my planned activities here, I'll state I have recently finished a BS in cybersecurity and a MS in leadership even though retired.  I live in North East South Carolina.

I joined to see the current state of affairs and how I can help.  I am disappointed, but not surprised and what I've found.  I am trying to read through old posts and blogs to get a better sense of the members before I start writing in my blog but decided to post my intro today because of an excellent blog posted by Tempstar titled "What's wrong with us".  I have many suggestions around organizational design, purpose, culture, training etc and his post hit the nail on the head of what I've seen so far.  Things have changed, times have changed, people have changed but the mission remains the same.  We must adapt.

I live a few months most years in a third-world country.  Over the last few years we have moved more in the direction of becoming a third world nation ourselves.  The rule of law has become power hungry and corrupt.  I feel like the battle for our country has already been lost because we were asleep at the wheel.  It's not too late, but soon might be.  Responding requires recognizing that we face two very different threats, the threat from within (which may be assisted by external threats), and the outside threats which may seek to take advantage of our internal situation.

At 60 years old and not in the best of health I would be a liability on any active battlefield.  However, on the modern battlefield external threats are likely to employ various indirect techniques such as information warfare and cyber attacks long before they put boots on the ground.  Internal threats are all about information warfare and controlling the narrative in addition to the actual activities.  If we can adapt to, respond to and even use these techniques ourselves we stand a chance of doing some good.  In my blog I hope to explore these things and find some actionable objectives.  Along the way we will need to organize and grow our membership.  I personally know 10 people that would join if they had direction and purpose.  What say you?
