It was educational. Not sure how we got wedged apart. I am unable to meet your goals and therefore unfit to be your trainer.

Leadership lesson #1 - Leaders lead. That doesn't mean fall behind and make excuses.

Leadership lesson #2 - When you , as a leader , realize you are unable to reach objectives given by. Superiors , if it is due to a defect on your end that can not be corrected so that objectives are met on time, its time to allow someone that is able to do so the opportunity.

Leadership lesson #3 - Leaders do what they say and say what they do. They lead by example.

Trainers are leaders. They are not gossips. They are not troublemakers.

When I discovered I was u,able to meet objectives given me . I evaluated what it would take for me to do so. The result was it was beyond my current abilities.

I have given my time , energy and money to Deplorable Patriots III% Militia. It was my pleasure and good fortune to have been a part of their unit.

If you are in their ao, go to their meeting. They are fine folks. The OP was meant to notify everyone that I no longer am their trainer. The unknown wedge was just that unknown to me cause that I was unable to meet objectives.

I'm going to pipe in to put some general objectivity on this, having absolutely zero knowledge or familiarity with this group but more to address leadership qualities in general. I'll break it down by points as you posted it.

1. Absolutely. Lead from the front, even when it sucks, especially when it sucks. Excuses have a max effective range of zero meters.

2. Not always. Murphy always gets a vote. A responsible leader will identify what issues are obstacles and attempt to overcome them and if unable to will notify their superiors ASAP. As leaders we have a responsibility to ensure our subordinate leaders and people have the tools to complete their missions. Failing in one assigned task doesn't sink a person as a leader as long as they are able to AAR it and take those lessons learned and put them in our toolbox.  Where a leader fails is if they don't pop that red star cluster the moment they realize they cannot overcome an obstacle after due diligence because they are afraid of the affect  it will have on the perception of them. The inability of some people to raise their hand and let the whole world know "I screwed up and it's my fault, but this is how I/we are going to fix it" speaks a lot about the character of an individual. Likewise it reflects greatly on people willing to admit and action that.

3. Absolutely. Old saying: "All eyes are upon you as a leader at all times".  This is where the old "Be, Know, Do' comes into play.

RE: Trainer are leaders. I'll argue against that point as a general rule of thumb. Over the decades I've seen guys that were outstanding trainers but couldn't lead consistently because training is, for the most part, a controlled environment.  OTOH most excellent leaders are capable trainers. As far as gossip it's a leaders job to kill that shit ASAP by putting the truth out there, and even if they don't know admit they don't know but dispel any non-truths. Gossip is an organizational cancer. It's not a sin to admit you don't know something, but you need to make every effort once you've identified you don't know something to find out ASAP and inform your people.

SD, it's good that you recognized your limitations, too often people don't (or won't) be introspective enough to know them. All of us have limitations, both individual and organizaitonal. Part of a leader's core responsibilities is to deploy their unit in accordance with it's capabilities and limitations. Good job.
