Why do Politicians want to outlaw gasoline and diesel powered vehicles?

Not to long ago a friend from California visited the DMV and attempted to renew his registration for his old diesel truck. He was informed that his truck was to old and only for that reason in California was not legal to drive or register. His remedy, sell his truck or have a very costly engine swap done with a newer engine.  

 

Recently, California Governor Newsom signed a new law banning opperation of combustion engine vehicles and sales by 2035. Does this sound familiar? Create unreasonable laws to take something away with no clear reason. Create laws and regulations to do away with something politician don't believe you need without any proof it will do any good. 

 

Is global warming to blame? Or is it something more sinister. Your thoughts!

Just follow the money trail. Who is gaining monetarily from these actions. Cause friction and unrest as well as distrust in anyone in a nominal position of authority to break down societal bonds...instability creating the opportunity for profit. Yes, more than just "global warming" .

Old diesel trucks do not have surveillance devices. Combustion vehicles are not tethered to charging stations. Privacy and mobility are enemies of tyranny.
