With the ejection port closed you pretty much have similar results.

Blowing sand in the western states of United States deserts I'd go with the AK /saiga now in the forest or the rolling plains or farm pastors ar 15 fine but I'm a desert rat 🐪🐁🐍 and in that type of arid environment

I think its a tool use what works.   

 

Sold off my saiga 308 100 a long time ago.
