Russia is 'flexing its muscles' as Vladimir Putin sends 10 warships to British waters

The head of British Armed Forces has warned Russia is testing Britain and the NATO allies, and is "flexing its muscles" in a way that has not been seen since the Cold War

Russia has been accused of "flexing its muscles" after President Vladimir Putin sent 10 warships into British waters.

In a show of force, the nation is seemingly "testing" Britain and NATO allies, it has been claimed.

The country is acting in a way not seen since the Cold War says the Chief of the Defence Staff.

General Sir Nick Carter, 61, said Moscow is testing the nations as its regime was reacting to problems with its neighbour, reports Mail Online.

The head of the British Armed Forces said: "They are wrestling with their own sense of imperial overstretch as their 'near abroad' becomes increasingly restive.

"The week before last, Russia assembled 10 or so warships and combat aircraft from the northern Baltic and Black Sea fleets in a show of force in the waters off the British and Irish coasts.

"They are flexing their muscles in our own backyard with an ostentation that they've not displayed since the Cold War.

US Navy sends first guided-missile class submarine to Persian Gulf in eight years as nuclear powered USS Georgia comes within striking distance of Iran with its 154 Tomahawk missiles and dry dock for SEALs

  • The USS Georgia is one of four Ohio class guided-missile submarines equipped with Tomahawk missiles
  • The USS Georgia can hold up to 154 missiles, with a range of around 1,000 miles in any direction
  • This is the first time one of these submarines have traveled into the Persian Gulf in eight years
  • Another Ohio class guided-missile submarine was sent to South Korea in 2017 to address North Korea tension

The United States announced the arrival of the nuclear-powered submarine USS Georgia in the Persian Gulf on Monday, a notable development in a region where tension is on the rise.

None of these types of submarines, which are equipped with Tomahawk missiles, has traveled to the Persian Gulf in eight years, making it a significant ship movement.

The USS Georgia is an Ohio class guided-missile submarine, one of just four in the navy's fleet. According to The Drive, the USS Georgia, equipped with up to 154 Tomahawk missiles, was flanked by two Ticonderoga class cruisers as it traveled through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most significant waterways for commerce in the world.

The photos also revealed a dry dock shelter mounted behind the Georgia's sail. The dock is used primarily for deploying Seals under water.

The disclosure of the movement was likely meant as a show of force toward Iran, which is located in the Persian Gulf.

Israeli Submarine Reportedly Crossed Suez in ‘Message’ to Iran as US Warships Enter Persian Gulf

A US nuclear-powered submarine entered the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz on 21 December as part of Washington’s latest deterrence mission against Iran as tensions spiked after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blamed Iranian-backed militias for a rocket attack on the American Embassy compound in Baghdad on Sunday.

An Israeli Navy submarine visibly crossed the Suez Canal above water last week in what is being seen as a show of force aimed at Iran, Kan News, a public broadcaster, reported on Monday night.

Arab intelligence officials had reportedly confirmed to Kan News that the IDF Navy submarine surfaced and faced the Persian Gulf, which lies on the other side of Saudi Arabia, in a deliberate act, approved by Egypt, and purportedly intended to ‘send a message’ to Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

There has not been any official comment from the Israel Defence Forces, with the IDF saying it does not respond to “reports of this kind.”

Russian and Chinese bombers fly joint patrol over Pacific

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian and Chinese bombers flew a joint patrol mission over the Western Pacific Tuesday in a show of increasingly close military ties between Moscow and Beijing.

The Russian military said that a pair of its Tu-95 strategic bombers and four Chinese H-6K bombers flew over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the joint mission was intended to “develop and deepen the comprehensive Russia-China partnership, further increase the level of cooperation between the two militaries, expand their ability for joint action and strengthen strategic stability.”

The ministry added that the patrol flight “wasn’t directed against any third countries.”

Tuesday’s mission was the second such flight since a July 2019 patrol over the same area.

China Says It "Expelled" A US Navy Destroyer Near Spratly Islands In Fresh Escalation

On Tuesday the Chinese PLA navy and air forces warned a US warship to leave China-claimed territorial waters near the disputed Spratly Islands given it "did not seek permission" to be there.

Citing a PLA statement, Bloomberg reports, "The military says it opposes the actions of the U.S. which endanger China’s sovereignty and security, as well as peace in the South China Sea," while also saying the Chinese military remains on "high alert".

The statement claimed further: "The Chinese PLA on Tuesday expelled US destroyer USS John S. McCain after it trespassed into China’s territorial waters off Nansha Islands in the South China Sea," according to spokesman for the PLA southern theatre command, Colonel Tian Junli.

A US 7th Fleet Spokesman confirmed the sail through in what was dubbed "another demonstration of freedom of maritime navigation."

The US statement underscored further that the USS McCain did not need to seek permission to be in international waters, which is not Chinese territory, and pass through the Spratlys to "demonstrate that innocent passage may not be subject to such restrictions," according to 7th Fleet spokesman Lt. Joe Keiley.

South Korea scrambles jets as Chinese, Russian aircraft enter air defence zone

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea said it scrambled fighter jets in response to an intrusion into its air defence identification zone by 19 Russian and Chinese military aircraft on Tuesday.

Four Chinese warplanes entered the Korea Air Defence Identification Zone (KADIZ) followed by 15 Russian aircraft, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

The South Korean military dispatched air force fighters to take tactical measures.

The South Korean military said the Chinese military had informed South Korea that its planes were carrying out routine training before the Chinese aircraft entered the KADIZ.

“This incident seems to be a joint military drill between China and Russia but it requires a further analysis,” the JCS said in a statement.

'If one American is killed, I will hold Iran responsible': Trump threatens Tehran after attack on U.S. embassy in Baghdad and reveals three rockets failed to launch as the anniversary of Soleimani's killing approaches

  • Trump tweeted about the attack Wednesday afternoon en route to Florida
  • He said Iran was to blame and that three rockets did not explode
  • Posted image of unexploded ordinance
  • 'If one American is killed, I will hold Iran responsible. Think it over'
  • National security officials met Wednesday to develop 'options'
  • They are to be presented to Trump, and designed to be 'non-escelatory'
  • Rockets landed in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone compound Sunday
  • Trump said three did not explode and posted images

President Donald Trump engaged in some saber-rattling from 30,000 feet, issuing 'health advice' to Iran and tweeting out images of unexploded ordinance following an attack on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.

Trump blasted out the tweet after taking off from Washington for Mar-a-Lago, where he plans to spend the holidays with family including First Lady Melania Trump and son Barron.

He referenced the attack on the embassy Sunday, and hinted at a possible military response, not long after vetoing the National Defense Authorization Act, which provides billions in U.S. military programs, infuriating Democrats and putting some Republicans in a difficult spot.

Red Alert Chinese troops training in Canada for Winter Warfare Red Alert get your coms going.

FATAH: China’s troops trained in Canada against which country?

If you haven’t yet read about the scandal of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau allowing China’s communist-led military to train in winter warfare, you’ve got to be living in Chinese-occupied Tibet or inside China’s concentration camps for its Uighur Muslim minority.

The news of Canada cozying up with the Chinese regime and its military was first broken by Rebel News, quoting government documents released to Rebel and also carried by the Globe and Mail.

The report shocked ordinary Canadians who learned their country’s military leadership —  who put a stop to the training —  was at odds with Global Affairs and the prime minister.

For it was Justin Trudeau who had invited China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to send its troops for cold weather training at CFB Petawawa in Ontario — and when Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) cancelled the training following China’s kidnapping of Canadian citizens Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig, we hear the prime minister ‘raged’ at the Canadian Armed Forces for doing so.

No self-respecting nation would allow its adversaries to trample all over it while holding hostages. Such countries can best be described as putting the ‘state’ into ‘terrorist practices’ and should be faced by courage, not appeasement as British PM Neville Chamberlain demonstrated in front of Adolf Hitler. But even Chamberlain didn’t express veneration of Nazi Germany the way Trudeau expressed admiration of China’s “basic dictatorship.”

IRAN is boosting its air defences around nuclear sites in fear of a possible strike ordered by President Trump.

It comes as Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif today warned that an attack could trigger a conflict in the region “far worse” than the Iraq War.

Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas reports that Iran is upping its defences around uranium enrichment sites in Fordo and Natanz, regarded as two of the countries’ key nuclear facilities.

Sources told Al-Qabas that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had deployed a ‘Power 737’ missile system as well as Russian ‘SAM’ air defence missiles in the vicinity of both sites.
