Variety Honors Julianne Moore for Being a Hypocrite on Guns

Recommended Posts

Variety published it’s 2016 Power of Women New York issue honoring five women who “use their clout to bring attention to worthy causes”. Among this year’s winners is Everytown for Gun Safety harpie Julianne Moore.

In an article appearing in the April 5, 2016 issue, Variety reported:

In October 2015, Moore launched the Everytown Creative Council as founding chairwoman. The council boasts such artists as J.J. Abrams, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Carell and Amy Schumer.

Moore points out that the group’s efforts are “
not an anti-gun movement or a partisan movement — this is about safety
.” As someone who has played her share of police officers, such as in last year’s film “Freeheld,” she has fired guns on sets and respects people who want to handle weapons responsibly.

“It’s constitutional, and that’s an important thing to remember,” she says. She cites the example of the auto industry, saying that although cars are involved in injuries and fatalities, nobody wants to eliminate them; rather, they have introduced elements like airbags to make driving safer. “There’s no reason we can’t do the same with guns,” she says. “It does not have to be a fight.”

Brilliant. I love that she used the auto industry as an example because guess what, Julianne? Even though people are killed in auto accidents, the government isn’t making it harder for people to buy cars, toughening the Drivers License application process or blaming the auto industry or all drivers for one person’s actions behind the wheel like your partisan gun control groups do to gun owners and manufacturers.

"This is not an anti-gun or pro-gun issue. … It is a safety issue." Julianne Moore, on gun violence

If it was truly a matter of gun safety, not gun control, then Ms. Moore should support the NRA’s efforts to teach gun safety with a wide variety of programs throughout their 145 year history. Hunter Services, Women and Youth Programs, the Active Rifle Challenge and Eddie Eagle Child Safety Program for pre-K through 4th grade students all teach the fundamentals of gun safety.

Perhaps Julianne should consider what she says before she says it. Then again, she is an actress – she makes her living repeating things others tell her to say.

and shooting guns on the big screen.
