In order to become a candidate for membership in the First Company Governor's Foot Guard, an interested person should be all of the following:
A citizen of the United States
A resident of the State Of Connecticut
At least 18 but less than 65.
Of good character, neat and physically fit.
In addition to these qualifications, persons interested in becoming a candidate for membership must submit to and pass a State Police Background & Criminal Record Check, and must meet the qualifications set forth by the "Lautenberg Amendment", 18 U.S.C. Â§ 922(g)(9) [Public Law 104-208], which restricts firearms access to persons convicted of domestic violence, and to persons under a restraining / protection order for domestic violence. Candidates for membership who have met all of the above qualifications, have successfully passed a State Police Background & Criminal Record Check, are in compliance with 18 U.S.C. Â§ 922(g)(9), and are familiar with the responsibilities and obligations of membership in the First Company may request an interview before the membership committee.
