Every citizen a soldier

   (0 reviews)

dedicated to the idea of the “Jeffersonian Militia.” This is the idea that every citizen has the right and the responsibility to protect their freedom. Only a person that is mentally, physically and materially prepared to do so can be a true citizen of a free republic. All others are ultimately the subject of those that are willing to project power. In ancient Greece this meant having your own shield and spear and meeting regularly to practice the phalanx. Today it is a good bit more complicated. Notably, in ancient Greece, these rights and responsibilities were codified by law. Today on most western democracies the right is questioned, and the responsibility is largely ignored. Maybe this is our problem?
