  1. My rig is a 02 Suburban, i machined a 2" lift for next to nothing and put 33" BFG Ko2 on it. It has been able to make it through Hailys trail at prentice cooper state park up in TN (check it out if you can). It required a significant amount of work, i enjoy these vehicles and the LS line of engines but to date i had to rebuild and upgrade the transmission around 600 in parts and two long weekends. Rear main seal and plate, valve covers, exhaust, radiator, both front bearings and oil pan gasket. All to say there cheap about 3000 bucks on craigslist, prepare for some tlc but at least there easy to work on and no crazy overhead cam timing like the fords and dodge motors from the same era, im running out of room in the shop thanks to specialty tools 🤑🤕

Overlanding is definitely the new hot word, and also make you look less crazy when hunting gear. On the down side this has driven the price of accessories way up. Fab what you can at home with a buzz box. Overlanders are nice people and have assisted me in getting out of hairy situations, no kidding a 60yr old couple guided me out of a rough sport in there Lexus GX. had a hidden winch, lockers and adjustable shock height. I was very impressed and grateful, at least i had food and gear for the kids because without them we were spending the night.

  2. Sad day, had to dry up the milk cow but on a brighter note she's calving in December and that will be a nice return on investment.

Storing food on the hoof is very time consuming. Pasture rotation requires constant work on top of your daily schedule. There are weeks in the winter our cows and goats will go through a 6' bale of hay. At 40 a bale it can become expensive fast. I agree its still the best way, just keep in mind what you need on hand. How you will provide water, food and shelter in the colder months are all important. Laying chickens are probably the easiest and most forgiving livestock. At 35 chickens there barely a 10 min a day investment, turkeys are easy too there just slightly retarted birds.
