A president becomes a "lame duck" after the election. Obama could have appointed someone, but he was convinced to use the delay for deals.

Trump's updated list for nominees was released last week, oddly enough. It'll probably be a woman and the other one floating last time: Amy Barrett.

This situation happened during Obama's last few months in office. And the GOP fought tooth and nail to keep him from appointing one. McConnell was pretty adamant about not letting it happen. Several prominent GOP members have stated publicly they don't want to appoint a new Justice "in 2020".

Obama was sure Hillary would win he was happy to kick the can down the road. Trump can also kick the can if he feels his chances are good in November. But that kind of thinking burned Obama and the democrats. I bet Trump pushes for it only hard enough to keep the democrats off-balance in the lead up to the election. They're juggling so many issues right now. And this is now #1, #2, and #3. I'm curious how much black lives matter now to most of the democrats compared to a lifetime appointment of yet another conservative-leaning Justice. Who am I kidding? U-Haul's stock just went up another few points from all the extra white democrats fleeing urban areas.
