I got the KA-Bar pictured above. That is all the knife I will ever need.

I read an article saying iron oxide can be obtained at a paint shop. Evidently it is used in paint. So maybe you can buy it at Home Depot. Aluminium powder, according to the same article, can be obtained on Amazon.

I once had a PA 2.5 prism with the ACSS reticle which I thought was pretty simple and easy to use. The pictures of the Eotech 65 moa circle and 1 moa dot do look pretty good though. There is one now with a couple drop down marks. But I am an iron sight guy so not an expert. I only know what I like.

Great work. I was thinking of draping it over the opening of my tube tent at night to stay relatively hidden. The heat would come out of the opening but I would not be pressing up against it so it might work.

Hi guys,
I am in the mountains east of Bakersfield, CA., Kern County and trying to join a militia in my area. No military experience. I have an AR15. I can shoot. I have gear. I am 73 but I can run, gun and move and I am HIGHLY MOTIVATED and will do any job in the militia I am told to do with the very best of my ability.

New Developments Old Grouch finally sent me the proper, uncut, item a few weeks ago. I have had some problem so this is my first post since then. Now that I have the item, I am morally obligated to pay for it so Old Grouch will be getting a check for $35.51 as soon as I get paid.
I just rolled it up and put it in my pack so no experience in actually using it yet. Has anyone done any more testing on this or used it in any way?
-
New developments. After my bank clawed back the $35.51 from their bank a week and a half ago, I got an email from Old Grouch yesterday saying my order was cancelled. I replied F--you and once again forgot about the whole thing. Then a package arrived from Old Grouch. It was the ULCANS netting, but listen to this. They advertise about 6x4 feet. What was in the package was three small pieces torn up. Two corners and what looked like the original body about 4x2.5 feet. I will email them and if they want to pay for shipping, I'll send it back but it is of no use to me. Remember, they emailed me yesterday but refused to return emails before so this ought to be interesting.

I am putting together a medical kit to be worn on a battle belt. My very local military supply store sells a rather civilian looking first aid kit which I don't think I want. Besides a turniquet or maybe two and a couple compression type bandages, what else do I need?
-
My bank was able to claw back my $35.51 from Old Grouches bank and return it to me. So I still am looking for an alternative source.

Robert Lepley is right in that we can not simply drop everything, get in a car and drive cross county, alone, to some unknown situation. Those locally need to take the lead here.
I am at the other end of the physical spectrum. I am 73 but I can run, shoot, carry a pack, etc. Of course I am not 19 but I can be entrusted with some duty in this war and I have nothing better to do with the rest of my life than insure my children and grandchildren to not grow up under the rule of Antfa or the black communists running BLM.

I am not doing very well. First my cloak of obscurity, the device blocking infrared detection, failed to show up after paying for it. Then, I did not listen to Skellet and bought a Nightfox Nighthawk for $184.00. This was the only thing I could find at 1X and I need one power to walk around in the very broken terrain of my woods/mountain. Well, this little device is a FAIL. You could never use it to walk around in broken terrain and its claim of working out to 77 yards is a lie. Maybe 30 yards. And you could not use this toy in a real fighting situation anyway. No even for an ambush.
I am going back to my night-glow paint for irons, strong, long distance white light, and a rather weak green laser for twilight situations. The weak laser will work at greater ranges than I can shoot and being weak there is almost no trail back to me.

Maybe, if we are very lucky, they will shoot some more of their own members and just maybe assault one or more guys who will use that as a license to defend themselves. Then it is on.

I don't know if you guys have seen her video movie or not or what the issues regarding the video itself are but if you can't find it, here it is.

Well, I hate that happened to you, as I stated I've had several good transactions with them in the past. But things change and based on them not bothering to call you back I probably won't be doing business with them again. There are other sources, once I come across one I'll post it.
Please do, I am still very interested in this item.

My account was debited 7/21/20. To date no camo cloak and they refuse to supply me with a tracking number. Today I filled out a fraud form and sent it back to my bank. I asked them to debit the Old Grouch Supply bank account and through my bank return my money.
Let's review:
Debited my account 7/21/20
Received an email confirmation of my order 7/22/20 sent USPO Priority Mail.
I emailed them for the tracking number, no response
I called them for the tracking number and was told "our computer is down --we will call you back".
Next day, no call back.
I called again and got a recording.
I called again and got a recording.
I called again and got a recording.
I called and left a message asking them to state in their recording exactly when they would answer their telephone.
I called again and they had blocked my telephone number.
I called my bank and explained the situation, they mailed me a fraud claim form.
Today I sent the form to the bank.

As I said, I ordered one of these magical cloaks from Old Grouch Surplus. That was 7/21/20. They said it mailed 7/22/20 by USPO Priority Mail but gave me no tracking number. To date, no delivery. Yesterday I called them and they answered the telephone. Then they said their computer was down and they would call me back with the tracking number. Guess what????? No call back, no tracking number, no delivery.

I'm over it. I got a 200mW green laser. Wow! At night it is like a freeway leading back to me. Now I have an IR laser, we will see how it works when I get the NV gear.
-
How can you go wrong with this. I bought one.
-
I did run into this "long distance" IR illuminator, a 940nm unit and the price is certainly right. It features a concave lens which I am guessing is the secret sauce.
-
I swear, this is the only forum where any sort of budget NV discussion is even tolerated. Everywhere else, all discussions of NV equipment first require a paper bag and a revolver because it is first necessary for you to rob a bank.
So I am finalizing my budget NV equipment picks. A separate IR illuminator is going to be necessary unless I want to wear two headlights on my head with the goggles. I don't. So then you notice there are two kinds. There is the more common 850nm IR and the 940nm IR. Of course, it is never as simple as one is just totally, absolutely superior to the other, there are trade offs.
It seems the 850nm is clearer and penetrates the night better but is more visible to the naked eye. So if you want stealth, at least visible stealth, you are also looking at the 940nm which is much harder to see.
As usual, I don't know shit from shineola so what do you guys with some knowledge and experience think?

Skillet, so you are saying this will work against both thermal and NV as in PVS 14?? I just wanna hear you say it again.
-
I just ran into some information that M76 smoke grenades will block IR light and are used by the military for that purpose. They will not block thermal scopes but only IR, maybe the IR amplifying light. Does anyone know if these are available to civilians and where? They would be a nice addition if that were possible.
-
OK Skillet, I did more research. Is this what you are talking about?
This is cheap. But I would have to buy a helmet and it is 2x. I was hoping for 1x so I don't trip in the brush.
Also, with the Digital NV in the visor form, could I just install a patch over my right eye and use my left (weak side eye)?? Just aiming a laser, right?

New Nightfox set up
This is $184.00, comes with headgear, supposedly good for 75 yards. It might not be your choice for assaulting Osama bin Laden's compound but it should work guarding a fixed position at night. The price is certainly right.
Here is a video on it
Here is a $46.00 Infrared laser from China to go with this. I have a Chinese green laser and they work just fine.

So what do you think about this setup?
The only thing I would add is a second or hand held IR illuminator so you don't have to use those on the headset.

Thermite
in Knives, Traps and Explosive Ordinances
Posted
Here is the article I mentioned above. Recently, there was a TV program on the Seal Team 6 raid killing Osama. One stealth helicopter crashed and the show mentioned it was destroyed using termite grenades so I googled it. As we have all figured out by now, they don't really explode, just burn to hot everything else catches fire. You may also remember an episode of Big Bang Theory when the guys borrowed a famous scientist's van for a trip into the desert. There was a flat tire and they boys couldn't get the lug nuts off. They decided to try heating them, found some rust, made aluminium powder, and so thermite. In the show the next scene depicts the whole van on fire which is probably what would happen. Thermite might even be fitted into some grenade launchers or flare launchers (if this is legal). Whatever, thermite is legal, we can make it, and it may have useful applications like quickly taking steel bridges down in a SHTF setting.
Here is the article
