  1. I would recommend adopting a standard that is used across the country, so that you can train and function in a manner that will allow you to come along side other units from other areas and already know how to work together. Such a standard can be found at www.LightFootMilitia.com.

  2. The only need for a rifle might be getting rid of two legged critters and taking large four legged game as food. A nice quiet slingshot using steel nuts as ammo would kill small game and deter pests. Making a lot of noise in a SHTF scenario might not be desirable. Any takedown rifle that would handily fit in a backpack would be good.

Do you have a good recommendation for a optimal, practical size for slingshot nuts?

  3. The Republican party has consistently lied to the Christians to try and keep their vote. We had years of a Republican majority in congress with Republican president. I expect that the overwhelming majority of those Republicans ran on a smaller government, pro-life, entitlement reform platform. Then, when they have the chance, they grow government and continue the funding of bigger government, entitlements, and do not take even the slightest step to protect the life of the innocent unborn.

I'm done falling for the rhetoric of the Republican party. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I'm going third party and will consider coming back to the Republicans when they begin to show me that they honestly want to restore this country to it's roots.

Trump is a populist/nationalist and doesn't support true American values any more than Mrs. Clinton does. I suppose that if I had to choose between Trump and Clinton, I would choose Trump, but he hasn't earned my vote and therefore will not get it.

  4. I see the primary mission as community safety and security.

"Community" has several layers and each layer has a diminishing priority

    1. Immediate Family

    2. Extended Family

    3. Neighborhood

    4. Municipality

    5. County

    6. State

    7. Union of States

Safety and security means responding appropriately to any crisis, disasters, needs, etc. as each situation requires and withing the capacity in which you are trained and capable as individuals and as a team.

Militia units should work to build specialty skills that make them valuable in the event that such skills are needed. As skills are developed and eventually mastered, the unit can choose to develop more specialized skills.

Such skills would be just about anything from security, advanced medical aid, food storage and preparation, communications, farming, intelligence gathering, room clearing, etc. The list is endless.

However, all militia are first riflemen.

  5. Good post, Erik Hanson. Rank structure is something that I've wondered about since it seems that anyone and everyone can start a small unit as long as they have men who are willing to follow them. I like the way that LFM sets up the structure where all positions of leadership are voted on by those who will eventually serve under them. If you are absolutely unwilling to serve under the leader that your group has selected, then maybe you need to go somewhere else.

TEAM - Led by Corporal over ~2 Privates, selected by Team

SQUAD - Led by Seargent over ~2 Teams, selected by Team Leaders

PLATOON - Led by Staff Sgt over ~3 Squads, selected by Squad Leaders

COMPANY - Led by Lt. over ~3 Platoons, selected by Platoon Leaders

BATTALION - Led by Captain over ~3 Companies, selcted by Company Leaders

REGIMENT - Led by Major over ~3 Battalions, selected by Battalion Leaders

BRIGADE - Led by Colonel over ~3 Regiments, selected by Regiment Leaders
