  1. Not mil-spec by any stretch. They would have to be at least IP-67 water resistance for that.
  2. Baofeng ain't bad for the price. TyT is a lot better. The antenna is a waste of money. You get 2 miles with the stock or 2 miles with this one. Radio horizon is 14 miles, the most you'll get on level ground. It is what it is. Thus, it comes down to durability and how much you want to pay. A Baofeng UV-5R with an extended battery will cost you about $35, so get 2 and keep a spare and at least you'll have something. There is nothing worse than watching your 2 week old Motorola you just spent $600 on disappear in the lake.
  3. I know I've beat the crap out of mine, 3 day weekends with no cleaning, mud, submersion, even a 20 foot drop onto a gravel road. Decent rifle and good ammo makes all the difference.
  4. Shame he isn't Republican. If he were, we would have an investigation going by now.
  5. Any computer can be traced to it's first hop onto the internet. TOR, TAILS, VPNs, does not matter. If there is a route to get information back to your computer then does it not make sense that the originating server knows where you are? The only way to be safe when you don't want to be found is get on someone else's WiFi with a yard sale laptop. I absolutely hate when I see someone trying to tell how to be anonymous on the internet. You can make it hard for the casual curious to find you, but anyone with an IT degree can trace the route back to it's source.
  6. Set to require permissions....?
  7. I run a shingle on the left, one on my pack, (It's getting dropped during a kinetic engagement) and one in the rifle when I go 5.56. I carry 3-20 round low left chest, 2-20 round left side and one onboard when I carry the 7.62 system. I use all open top and haven't lost a mag ever.
  8. The Posse Comitatus act drew the line between standing army and state guard and air force. Federal troops can not operate inside the borders of the United States except in cases of insurrection or invasion, and then only when ordered by the President. This gap has since been filled by Army and Air State National Guard, who can be ordered into action by their home states Governor, or into adjoining states at the request of that states Governor. This was the case until Bush signed the John Warner act bringing the use of military forces back into the United States borders for basically anything t
  9. If one reads the Federalist Papers, we can see that our government was never meant to be a career, but a required service to our country. I'm sure term limits would have been in the amendments if they ever thought for a second that people would make it a career, or that we the people would have been stupid enough to keep electing the same scumbags over and over. These same career politicians are the real danger. They will do anything to protect the gravy train they're riding, and Trump is the closest thing to a threat they have had in a long time. I'm more than certain that had Hillary wo
  10. I have abandoned Motorola and started purchasing TYT MD-UV380 handhelds and TYT MD-9600 mobiles. I pair the mobiles with Comet CA-2X4SR multiband antennas.
  11. Anyone serious about comms should have an Amateur radio license. Depending on what is available in your area, there is also a GMRS license that you buy from the FCC with NO test. It would be a waste however if there are no GMRS repeaters in the area. There are a plethora of radios on the market right now at super cheap prices. Picking up a decent radio these days does not have to break the bank as in the past. My personal favorite is the DMR (digital mobile radio): It takes another DMR radio with exactly the same settings to intercept the conversation, and some even have voice scrambling.
  12. Be wary of any night vision device that uses an illuminator. It looks like the sun glowing to any other NVD.
  13. Thanks all. It's been a good 20 years, time to give back.
  14. Hi all, Outside of Conway, SC. Back into the movement after a 20 year hiatus/
