In my attempt to join the ASM I came across this disappointing statement. "Despite our attempts we have been unable to coordinate starting a unit in Cochise,Navajo and Apache counties. Until we can meet individuals that want to assist in setting up a new unit we will not be processing applications in these areas." How can this be?

About ASM Who is the Arizona State Militia? The Arizona State Militia is composed of private citizens who carry on normal civilian lives. While some members may have former police or military experience, they are presently civilians simply exercising their right to keep and bear arms and form militias. What is the Arizona State Militia? The Arizona State Militia is a locally organized body of armed American citizens committed to defending their Constitutional liberties and serving their local communities. We are free and independent from the control of any local, state, or federal government, except when called to service by the State Governor under AZ SB 1495 and ARS 26-124. Our whole purpose is to defend our freedoms. So, the Arizona State Militia acts freely to defend freedom and our community. We also call it a "militia" for two reasons. First, we are a military organization. Our purpose is, if necessary, to defend our liberties by force of arms. Second, we are a militia in the sense that we are composed of private citizens instead of professional soldiers. Hence, the Arizona State Militia is a combat team of private citizens. The name Arizona State Militia was selected partly to describe what we are. But the terms were also carefully chosen to conform to the language of the Second Amendment to indicate our intentions are Constitutionally legal. "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
