Voting for Trump, or a third party candidate?

Recommended Posts

I saw this flying across a news feed. Had to snag it and post here. Seems there is a bunch of disagreement on whom to vote for. I piss a lot of people off by saying that a third party candidate is a third place candidate, and the next loser in line is the candidate that should have been president but didn't get enough votes to make it there. My reply to their anger is to tell them to tell their third party candidate to get into the two major parties and cause a platform shift. This can happen as Trump just pulled it off.

But here this is....

I will add that I thought Bernie should have stayed on as a write in candidate and be a Democratic spoiler. I bet the meeting with the Clintons was a serious talk about what ripe, old age Bernie was going to live to.

I'm adding a little (funny?) meme that vents a little frustration for some over the choices and resulting questionable country's fate following the election...

I do not know much about Gary Johnson or his party's stance on issues. If someone has some enlightening info to post, this topic could use some.

There was this interesting comment pulled from the internet...(NOT MY COMMENTARY)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Libertarian platform is unacceptable on multiple issues.

On abortion, section 1.5 of their platform states: "Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration." That is absolutely pro-abortion, and may actually be more radical than Trump's financial support for killing babies. Section 2.10 of their platform endorses physician-assisted suicide. ("We recognize the freedom of individuals to determine . . .all other aspects of their medical care, including end-of-life

decisions.") That is also anti-life. They aren't libertarians. They're libertines.

On border security, Libertarians want open borders, but somehow pledge to screen the people streaming across the borders to keep bad guys out. Section 3.4 of their platform states: "Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial capital across national borders. However, we support control over the entry into our country of foreign nationals who pose a credible threat to security, health or property." That's Obama's plan. It hasn't worked.

On national defense, Libertarians propose a catastrophic isolationism. Section 3.1 of their platform demands that the U.S. "avoid entangling alliances and abandon its attempts to act as policeman for the world." Section 3.3 demands "avoiding foreign entanglements" and ending "foreign intervention, including military and economic aid." That abandons Israel to a second Holocaust (not even Clinton goes THAT far). Like Trump's idiotic statements, it dangles our NATO allies before a voracious Putin. That isn't conservative. It is foolhardy surrender to certain butchery.

On Social Security, Libertarians want to "phase out" the current system. I'm not a fan of Socialist Insecurity, but glibly saying "phase it out" says "we don't have a plan." What IS their plan? Renege on committed payments to current beneficiaries? Keep requiring people to pay in, while terminating their eventual payments? Run up an even bigger deficit? Exterminate the elderly?

Sorry, but the Libertarian Party isn't an acceptable alternative.

We need a new conservative party. We can't get one this election year. We're stuck with five parties that are crazy for different reasons, only two of which have any chance to win, Regardless of who wins this election, America loses.

I cannot, in conscience, vote for Trump, Clinton, Johnson, or Stein. That leaves me with the option of holding my nose and voting for Darrell Castle, who is pretty loony in his own right (fluoride in drinking water a major national issue?????) or simply skipping the Presidential race and concentrating downticket.

I will put in my two cents. Or nation is crumbling away. If it wasn't, we wouldn't even have websites like this. The current state of affairs is not the sole responsibility of the Democrats alone. The Republicans are just as guilty are the Democrats and both have worked together to screw over the average citizen. This is just the nature of those in power.

Einstein is famously quoted as saying the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. This is what we are doing in this nation. Trump is not above this, Trump is part of it. He has admitted to such. I will probably be voting for a third party candidate, because I hate the two-party system that we have fallen prey to and that George Washington warned us about.

Correct, Erik. Greed and corruption exist heavily in both parties.

It just so happens that a lot of the Republican party platform is catered to the Christian faith, family, and conservative values. I feel most Christian people align with that over what the Democratic party is currently offering as a party platform, and the path that the party is heading towards. Thus party alliance is largely based upon faith. Many would say party affiliation depends upon your financial status, but I feel that is a spin off of the inequality debates and socialist progression.

It would be nice to have the state primaries to include all parties, then the top two parties receiving the most votes for candidates would run in the general elections. I don't think our Founding Fathers expected to see a large number of political parties with several candidates running for president.

The Republican Party has not done anything to show any real commitment to Christian values. They espouse certain phrases to garner votes and pander to the gullible, but once in power, it is truly quite difficult to tell one party from another by actions alone. Because of this, why should we reward these cretins with continued support?

I side with you, Erik, on abuses in the Republican party. I cleverly stated in my previous post that the party platform caters to those of Christian faith. Those elected to the party is where things go wrong. We have plenty of young Constitution supporters that would love to be in service in Congress and have those cronies out of there.

Trump fits neither Democrat nor Republican, but his list of Supreme Court nominees is solidly in the conservative side. I am not voting for Trump just for my own personal gain, even though I fear great financial issues in the next few years. Rather, I am securing the Supreme Court balance for the next two generations in the hopes that my children can have the chance of seeing the same liberties that I enjoyed. Maybe they will even see the Constitution restored to its glory. There is a generation of patriots that are prepared to water the tree of liberty should a non-Constitutional supporting party continue to stay in power.

I will grant you that is a valid reason to support Trump, if you can believe he will follow through on that list.

The Republican party has consistently lied to the Christians to try and keep their vote. We had years of a Republican majority in congress with Republican president. I expect that the overwhelming majority of those Republicans ran on a smaller government, pro-life, entitlement reform platform. Then, when they have the chance, they grow government and continue the funding of bigger government, entitlements, and do not take even the slightest step to protect the life of the innocent unborn.

I'm done falling for the rhetoric of the Republican party. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I'm going third party and will consider coming back to the Republicans when they begin to show me that they honestly want to restore this country to it's roots.

Trump is a populist/nationalist and doesn't support true American values any more than Mrs. Clinton does. I suppose that if I had to choose between Trump and Clinton, I would choose Trump, but he hasn't earned my vote and therefore will not get it.

I don't know how most of you really feel other than what I have read from your posts. I know I have never been Democrat and only recently became a republican for only 1 reason... to vote for the only chance we have at this point of having anything left of a constitution! I have studied most of the people from all sides of politics for many years... I find that there are many democrats hiding in republican clothing, but not a single republican hiding in democratic clothing.... anyone with a comment on that?

I also find that I am of the American party... there isn't a publicly known party with that name, but there should be. I find people from all walks of life and with many different colors that I would give my life for and then I see many that I wouldn't give the time of day! I've been in the military, fire dept, paramedic, fire marshal's office as an inspector and worked with the ATF on arson cases. I've rescued kids from fires and done a whole lot I'm proud of and done things I'm not.... One thing I will always be is protective of the flag and the constitution.

I think that McCain is what USN SEAL meant by a democrat in republican clothing.

Go ahead and throw your votes away for someone who has absolutely no chance of winning. When the militarized police show up at your door to collect your guns remember to say " But I didn't vote for HER ! "

You really think Trump doesn't have a chance? I've been to his rallies and I've watched videos of the thousands of people that crowd in and there still isn't enough room in stadiums. I've seen polls which have been altered to show Hitlery ahead, but I've heard about the 10s of hundreds that show up at her speeches and the 100s of thousands that show up to hear Trump! So, believe as you will... The media will try to make it look like Trump is losing just to make people believe as you do!

Well, I personally have no problems with Trump, But IF I did I'd just have to remember back to the nixon - mcgovern election of many years ago. nixon was a lying, thieving AH, SOB, but I voted for him because he was by far the lesser of the 2 evils presented to us for that election!

So, what I'm saying is: it's your choice, but remember, IF you vote for a 3rd party candidate - OR don't vote - you are actually casting a vote for the DumboKrap bitch billery by default!!!

Should we be so unlucky as to see her get elected you should be prepared for a major change in your life/life style!!! We could very possibly see the country gone to hell so bad as to end up in another revolution - Which NO One in their right mind should want!!!

Didn't say Trump doesn't have a chance, you did. I know the media is biased. Throwing your vote away on a third party candidate is a wasted vote.
