Sig Sauer‘s P320 continues to rack up key endorsements amongst law enforcement; the Chicago Police Department just added the popular gun to its list of authorized duty pistols.

Chicago Police Department’s Approved Duty Pistols

As Sig’s press release notes, the Chicago Police Department has approved the P320 Nitron Full-Size, P320 Nitron Carry, P320 Nitron Compact, and the P320 Nitron Subcompact for duty use. In addition to the P320, Chicago police officers are currently allowed to use the Glock 17 and Glock 19 and a range of Springfield XD pistols, as well as a number of models in the Smith & Wesson M&P line. The department is the second largest police department in the United States. It has over 13,000 sworn officers, covering 22 different districts in the Windy City.

“We are pleased that the Sig Sauer P320 has been added to the Chicago Police Department’s official authorized duty pistol listing,” said Tom Jankiewicz, Sig’s executive vice president of law enforcement sales. “The modular design of the P320 gives their full complement of officers the capability to easily change grip size and convert the sizing of their P320 from full-size to sub-compact, based on the officers needs and preferences. This customization feature of the P320 makes it an excellent option for a large department like the Chicago PD to meet the diversity of needs amongst officers.”

Sig P320 Details

Sig’s P320 is a modular, striker-fired gun that comes in full-size, carry, compact and subcompact models. It has a serialized trigger group, meaning it’s adaptable to multiple caliber, size and grip options. Available in 9mm, .357 SIG, 40 S&W, and .45 ACP, and with a choice of contrast or SIGLITE night sites, the gun features a 3-point takedown with no trigger pull required for disassembly. In terms of safety features, it has a striker safety, disconnect safety and optional manual safety.

“We here at Sig Sauer are honored that the Chicago Police Department has chosen to add the Sig Sauer P320 to its authorized duty pistol list and look forward to strengthening our relationship with the department,” Jankiewicz added.

On January 19, 2017, the U.S. Army selected the Sig Sauer P320 as the winner of its Modular Handgun System competition to replace the aging Beretta M9 as the service’s official sidearm. Since that time, the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard have all placed orders for the gun, as have a number of different law enforcement agencies.
