Almost One-Third Of All Americans Think Civil War Is Coming

Recommended Posts

Remember when talking about a potential civil war in this country meant getting fitted for a tinfoil hat? It was either that or people figured you were actually hoping for it. One or the other, generally. It wasn’t enough to say, “I see this coming.” No, it had to be either that you were nut or you were hopeful.

Considering how many people seem to think that’s in this country’s future these days, that has probably changed a good bit.

Thirty-one percent (31%) of Likely U.S. Voters say it’s likely that the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years, with 11% who say it’s Very Likely. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 59% consider a second civil war unlikely, but that includes only 29% who say it’s Not At All Likely. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Democrats (37%) are more fearful than Republicans (32%) and voters not affiliated with either major party (26%) that a second civil war is at hand.

But 59% of all voters are concerned that those opposed to President Trump’s policies will resort to violence, with 33% who are Very Concerned. This compares to 53% and 28% respectively in the spring of Obama’s second year in office. Thirty-seven percent (37%) don’t share that concern, including 16% who are Not At All Concerned.

Fifty-three percent (53%) are concerned that those critical of the media’s coverage of Trump will resort to violence, with 24% who are Very Concerned. Forty-two percent (42%) are not concerned about violence from media opponents, including 17% who are Not At All Concerned.

In other words, most people don’t think it’ll happen, but less than a third are convinced it’s not going to happen.

Realistically, I’m not sure how probable this is. I tend to think we’ve got a major blow coming. We’re way past due, in my opinion, which means we should all be a little conscious about that going forward.

But I do think no one is going to be let down by being ready. We’ve already seen groups of people in this country resort to violence in an effort to foist political change on people. The Antifa riots, for example, were nothing more than low-grade domestic terrorism. It’s not a leap for them to take it a step further, now is it?

What else was the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise but domestic terrorism? This was someone who resorted to violence to cause political change, the very definition of terrorism.

Is a civil war the same as domestic terrorism?

Well, it can be. It’s a matter of scale, though. It’s about numbers. The lone wolf domestic terrorist isn’t part of an army trying to change the United States government. It’s a schmuck who thinks his way is the only way.

But if you get enough of those schmucks together, the potential for ugliness increases.

I can already see the comments. “We’d win. No problem,” and other variations on that theme. Honestly, we probably would. We’d have the police and military on our side, most likely, and we’d have plenty of armed individuals ready to fight back as well. We’d hold the edge in most instances.

That doesn’t mean it won’t get ugly, though. Fighting in our streets, assassinations, bombings, all things we’re used to seeing on the news…in other countries.

Frankly, I hope that 31 percent is wrong. I really do.

I realize that this will draw the ire of most, if not everybody in America, but I'm being realistic.

America became the greatest nation in the annals of history.  Rather than to return to those principles, we have people who want to adopt one or more of the policies of dictatorships than the principles that made America great.  Adding insult to injury, because we have such divisions in our country, NOBODY wants to be like America.  Most of the world prefers dictatorships and some form of socialism.

NO other country shares our values.  As far as I can determine the United States is the only country that has a Declaration of Independence that is also known as the fundamental charter of the Rights of man making unalienable Rights a primary / foundational principle.   We're the only country with a Constitution guaranteeing those Rights and limiting government.  And, despite our history NOBODY looks to us as the leader of the free world any longer.

In our country, on both the left and the right, people would rather advocate to be like Mexico, China, Australia, or even North Korea... depending upon what single issue is most important in their lives.  My posts advocating a return to the America when the principles were working and making us great fall on blind eyes.  If you look back only a quarter of a century ago, the right and the left have flipped.  On many issues, the left pretends to be champions of constitutional causes the right abandoned.

Above it all, at a time when America had been attacked by Muslims, we immediately elected a Muslim as president of the United States... TWICE!!!  We've had a president of the NRA that was anti-gun in my lifetime.  The right has gotten on the bandwagon of the pee test, blood test, hair sample, criminal background check, MVR check, credit check,  National ID Card / E Verify, driver's license, occupation license, proof of insurance, and firearms license just to walk beyond the boundaries of your front door.  And, in the process, you may be under surveillance 24 / 7 / 365 by cameras, police and armed drones.  Nobody complains... it makes George Orwell's fears of Jack Booted Thugs look like a society abounding in Freedom and Liberty.  But, it's still not enough for the left OR the right.

Black people oppose the whites and want to take over.  So down come our flags,  monuments, statues, and memorials.  Erase the history and then erase the people.   Then the black people get on tv and radio telling us how much they hate the whites and vilifying them at every opportunity.  Atheists wanted rid of our religious culture so down came down nativity scenes and any public displays of The Ten Commandments.  Saying God in public is considered worse than a pedophile sexually assaulting a nine year old.

Our response?  The posterity of the founders have become drunks, drug addicts, and apathetic losers that are convinced they can build a government big enough to save them from themselves.  Even the liberals have a legitimate indictment against those who think we're all that and a bag of chips:

Maybe if we didn't consume 80 percent of the world's opioids, send more people to prison than any country on the planet and try to make America a simpleton's paradise by thinking you can do what you want, when you want, where you want so long as the majority approve.  What would we have a civil war over?  ALL the solutions I've seen put on the table to address contemporary issues are calculated to end in inevitable defeat.  Polls be damned.  If we don't get our excrement together, we are toast - and we are, as a nation, the laziest, most uninformed and cowardly nation on this planet.  We'd rather expend our efforts fighting each other than to sit down, reason with each other and unify (talking about the posterity of the founders that made America great) in order to reclaim Liberty and Freedom.  What in the world would be a reason for our nation to have a civil war when we've accepted every infringement known to God and man - and all without a whimper.

I'm not really sure what to think of this.

Well, I'm on the verge of lamenting the demise of a once great nation.  OTOH, there is a remnant that is still out there.  That is obvious by the numbers of people searching for answers.  I started my journey as a teen.  The older I get, the closer I am to understanding the problem, but it sometimes seems there is no definitive answer.

America is the last bastion of Freedom and Liberty on this planet.  While Americans own forty two percent of the world's privately held firearms, Russia's murder rate is TWICE that of the United States.

We are the only nation left that has the capacity to rebel against tyrannical government yet both sides of the political spectrum want a bigger and more intrusive government.  The takeaway here is that if a voice advocating less government and more freedom is not heard, the people will turn their government over to tyrants.  America has the capability of reclaiming their Liberty and Freedom.  Sadly, no organization is working toward that end.  That's worth thinking about.

It's actually an invasion from outside globalist elitist forces using sympathetic as well as pathetic US citizens and illegals to make it appear to be an internal civil war.  They are funding it and pulling the strings.

Well, there certainly is an invasion from outside, but I also think we've been rotting from the inside for over 30 years now... Globalist ideology, if not outright communism, has debased our ideas of personal excellence and responsibility.  We now look for the government to solve all of our (even personal) problems, as opposed to finding our own solutions.  We've spawned a generation of snowflakes, and as the years progress there will be more and more of them; to the point where "traditional American values" will be considered unamerican.  Hell, you can see it now, and it will only get worse.  To start, here are a couple of ideas you can think about.

1. Make English the official language of the United States.

2. Make every school make every student say the Pledge of Allegiance, every day.

3. Make Constitutional literacy a requirement for high school graduation.

Holy bejeebers.  You said something I can agree with.

Still, our number ONE problem is that our own system creates worthless welfarites.  We start with drugging them in grammar school, encouraging it through high school and when they turn to illegal activity, we put them in jail or prison over their addiction and then lock them out of society by giving the public access to parts of their background that are irrelevant to most jobs.

Minimum wage isn't enough to pay the rent anywhere in America.

How bad is the situation?

I have eleven white males that are supposed to show up this week and we put up a fence.  I'm willing to bet anyone on this board that no more than three will show up.  ALL of them are currently unemployed and their only source of money is handouts by the government.  I only need three and if that many don't show up, I will swing by a strip mall  on Friday and come back with a load of Mexican workers that will put the fence up in a couple of hours.  I am willing to bet $500 to your $100 that no more than three white guys will show up to work.  If you bet against me, if four people show up, you have $600 this week-end for a $100 wager.  If I'm wrong, you lose a hundred bucks.  Do I have any takers?

I do this stuff often because if I hire the foreigners outright, people wail and complain.  But, when we're paying people not to work and their mommies think that their children should not have to work, then Americans don't want the job.  They've figured out how to live off the government, mommy and those dumb enough to give them various handouts.

I just liked you on this, however if illegal aliens were controlled well enough the market would adjust and eventually wages would increase or there would be citizens willing to do the work as paid if also agreeing with you, we didn't have such a cradle to grave welfare state!

The immediate problem we're having right now has nothing to do with domestic law.  Mexico flooding the United States with people is a National Security issue and needs a military response.  Domestic law is inadequate to save us from the actions of a foreign government.  This is not a legal v. illegal issue; it is a military matter in need of the intervention of U.S. military personnel to deliver those people to the capitol in Mexico and warn them that next time we're coming to invade their country and take it.

Okay, I'll agree that the US military can be involved as it's mission is to help protect our borders.
